Six weeks ago an Imperial Navy listening station detected a small Chaos fleet headed towards the Eastern Rim. The infidels were obviously trying to avoid Imperial contact. To discern their intentions a Navy patrol group were dispatched to shadow the traitors, while the Ultra Marines were called in to terminate the insidious activities.

When the enemy filth finally made planetfall on a recently colonised world and moved towards an archeotech dig site, the Ultra Marines descended to intervene...

The archeotech site

As the Chaos starcruiser was blindfolded on the opposite site of the planet, the Astartes cruiser skipped the upper atmosphere to unload a gound attack force and at the same time make a tight gravity-assisted turn around the planet to come upon the enemy ships from behind.

The Chaos ground forces                                 The arriving Land Speeders

The Chaos warlord had sent a warband supported with heavy tanks and raptors planetside, presumably to search the archeotech site. The Space Marines executed a full airborne assault initiated by Land Speeders gliding down from the sky to establish contact with the enemy and guide the Thunderhawks to their final approach vectors. Meanwhile to confuse the enemy, a group of Terminators teleported down right next to the main warband. The distraction worked wonderfully, as the terminators in addition quickly caught the full attention of a pair of super heavy tanks. Having achieved their objective, the Terminators translated back onto the strike cruiser.

The distraction

With the main forces distracted, the remaining enemy formations became isolated, was pinned down by fire from the Land Speeders and were summarily cut down to the last man by the Thunderhawk-borne Assault and Devastator Marines.

The Thunderhawk assaults

As the Chaos cruiser rose above the horizon of the archeotech site and reestablished radio contact with the ground forces, the warlord was seemingly annoyed by the incoherent transmissions from the ground and therefore teleported down to sort out the rabble. He became somewhat dazzled when he emerged in the middle of a battle-ready Space Marine attack force. Suffering badly the warlord's terminator retinue were forced to leg it. At the same time the Astartes cruiser caught up with the Chaos ship and opened fire. Recognising that he was now fighting a lost battle the warlord returned to his ship and headed off at full thrust, sacrificing his few escorts to delay the pursuing cruiser.

The Imperials could celebrate a victory, but it had a distaste. What was the enemy expedition looking for? And, did they leave in a hurry because they already found it?

Christian skal iøvrigt have tak for at huske at tage billeder!

Intelligence about the minor chaos incursion is hard to get by, even by the chaos-touched psykers.

History shows us one lesson: "They will be back!"
