hellere droppe det end at producere noget lort, halvgode computerspil er slet ikke godt nok længere. Hvis pengepungen strammede har de imo valgt den rigtige løsning.

Tjaa, gør egentlig ik mig så meget. Så er der et spil mindre at vælge imellem og som der blev sagt længere oppe, så hellere droppe det end lave noget lort.

Tja, de fandt vel ud af at det koster i omegnen af 70-150 millioner at lave en sådan mmorpg. Og at det kræver ca. 30-70 personer at have servicen kørende. Og da det vil trække folk vær fra whitemetal modellerne i stor stil, forstår man det da godt!

Nu er det jo ikke sådanne at alle der spiller fantasy/40K ville stoppe med det...

Det ville nok være andre produkter der også ville tabe kunder til Wol, så derfor ville det jo nok stadig køre rundt. Og 100 mill er vist peanuts for GW?? Jeg føler personligt at jeg har brugt betydeligt mere over årene på deres produkter end det....  :o

GW er faktisk ikke et specielt rigt firma, tjeck deres aktie side på deres hjemme side. der er deres regnskab...

men igen, hvis de ikke selv mente de havde en værdig konkurrent til EQ2 og sådan, så var det nok bedst at lukke projektet ned, så Games workshop spil ikke få et "anden rangs" rygte over sig.

problemet er bare at de penge de HAR smidt efter det, skal hjem på en eller anden måde.....var der nogen som sagde højere figur priser.

Det største problem er at de har lagt projektet fra sig...for good!

Dvs. at det ikke bliver optaget igen, og da GW har licensen på Warhammer, vil det kræve en uhyggelig sum for andre firmaer at genoplive projektet, eller bare bruge navnet Warhammer Online.

Alle kan da blive enige om at 100 millioner er mange penge. Selv for et mainstream firma som GW.

Der kommer andre Warhammerbaserede spil, det er jeg sikker på, bare ikke et MMORPG. Det market er stopmæt nu hvor WoW og EQ2 udkommer. Andre MMORPG's er allerede blevet lukket ned, såsom Mythica.

Prisstigningen på figurerne vidste man kom, allerede før WO blev stoppet, så jeg tvilver på at de to ting har noget med hinanden at gøre. Sur urt, none the less.

UK developer's CEO calls the death of the massively multiplayer title "a deeply sad thing"

13:59 Climax today issued an official statement relating to the demise of Warhammer Online, the MMORPG the UK studio was developing alongside Games Workshop that it was sadly announced yesterday had bitten the dust following a full review of the progress of the game, costs to date and future costs of the project.
Karl Jeffery, Climax's CEO, has commented in some length on the closure of the title, saying: "It was a deeply sad thing for us to have to do after so much hard work and commitment from the entire team, but the costs involved in bringing the Warhammer massively multiplayer online game (MMO) to market meant that we were left with little choice."

Referring to MMOs in general, calling the genre a "very high stakes business" and pointing out the likes of Star Wars Galaxies "costing up to $30 million to launch", Jeffery moved on to the history of the Climax/Games Workshop partnership and the joint venture to develop an MMORPG based on Warhammer before praising the hard work of the faces behind the title:

"Since then [the creation of the joint venture] we have built an incredibly talented team in Nottingham which has developed an extraordinary game: the graphics and animation are stunning, the Leviathan tools and technology are cutting edge and the game world is gritty and realistic in a way never seen before in an MMO," Jeffery said.

He continued: "During the past few months Climax and Games Workshop have been undertaking a comprehensive review of the costs to complete and launch the game. MMO's have a very different business model from traditional (boxed) games and require a huge up front investment in servers, bandwidth and customer support teams.

"The actual cost of rolling out the game was far higher than either partner had anticipated and we have decided that we simply cannot justify it."

Ending on a positive note, however, Jeffery stated: "This decision will not impact Climax's Nottingham studio: we have a second game already in development there and the technology team will continue to advance our Leviathan suite of MMO tools and technology.

"We are now exploring the possibility of bringing in another partner to assist with the roll out, a company with existing MMO experience and infrastructure would be ideal, as this would reduce costs and risk," he added.
